The suspect in the Gangnam, South Korea, murder case is a man (35) identified by the last name Lee. He was reportedly investigated by the police for trying to confiscate cryptocurrency belonging to a third party in February 2021.

The third party was the victim of the Gangnam murders. Lee received an extortion charge, while the victim was fired for a misdemeanor. The police also suspected cryptocurrency theft as the main motive for the murder. Besides Lee, there are two other suspects surnamed Yeon (30) and Hwang (35). According to the police, they had no known relationship with the victim.

The three were arrested by police on kidnapping and murder charges after allegedly abducting a woman in her 40s near her residence in Yeoksam-dong, Gangnam-gu, at around 11pm on Wednesday, March 29, 2023. The woman was targeted for murder, and her body was dumped by the suspects near Daecheong Dam in Daejeon.

2. Crypto Influencer Found Mutilated in a Suitcase

Buenos Aires police opened a murder investigation after they found dismembered body parts of a millionaire and crypto influencer with 900,000 followers on Instagram named Fernando Perez Algaba.

Before his body was found in a suitcase, Algaba had reportedly been missing for a week. According to reports, the influencer’s body was found by a group of children in Argentina in a red suitcase while playing near a stream in the town of Ingeniero Budge.

After witnessing the gruesome sight, the children’s parents alerted Buenos Aires police, who later found a leg and an arm inside. After a search of the area, police then found another arm in the river.

Police later told local journalists that the body parts were neatly cut, suggesting the act was carried out by a professional. A subsequent autopsy revealed that Algaba was shot three times before his body was dismembered.

In this case, police have arrested one suspect in connection with Algaba’s death. While the motive for the murder remains unclear, authorities have suggested that the influencer was killed due to her mounting debts from the notes on her phone. Not only that, Algaba was also reportedly in debt to a violent gang in Argentina.

3. The Death of Crypto King Christian Peev

The suspect in the murder of a crypto influencer who allegedly beat his victim to death using a barbell found in his home, named Vesco Valchinov. The victim was Christian Peev (41) whose body parts were found by plumbers in a ditch in Sofia, Bulgaria.

Peev, was allegedly beaten to death in his apartment and his lifeless body was then cut up and flushed down the toilet, eventually clogging the drain, which is why the plumber was called. Some of the parts that could not be disposed of, including part of his head as well as some of his bones, were allegedly buried by Valchinov and his accomplices, according to police reports.

Peev had graduated from a university in the US and built a fortune from crypto investments. He frequented high-end parties and events before he was killed, and it is believed that here he met his alleged killer, who worked as a bartender. Peev was murdered between August 8 and 9.

Prosecutors and the Ministry of Interior said in a press conference that her cousin Christian filed a report of her disappearance on August 10, two days earlier. Investigators arrived at the crime scene after checking two cell phones of the missing person. They said: “All the contacts she had on the day she was last seen were checked. One of them was with his friend Vesco Valchinov.”

According to reports, Peev had taught how to invest in crypto to Valchino, who asked to be taught by the victim because he considered the victim successful in this field.

Important lessons from the recent crypto-motivated murder cases:

[1] Never show off your assets just to get attention and recognition. Remember not everyone is happy with our success.

[2] Never use hot money for daily needs for investment, let alone loan money. Always use your cold cash.

[3] Be wary of new people you know, especially those who are interested in the way you invest. As much as possible, if you want to meet, you must be with several other people you know.
