“In my view, Southeast Asia has immense potential, not only for Gate.io but for all Web3 companies operating in this market. We have been operating in this region for several years and have realized that this base is home to large and very active companies,” Ngo stated.
According to Indonesia Crypto Network, several factors highlight Southeast Asia’s potential as a crypto hub. One notable aspect is the significant portion of the population without access to banking services—such as 70% in Vietnam, 66% in Indonesia, and 44% in the Philippines. This has led to the rise of cryptocurrency and decentralized finance (DeFi) as solutions to address financial exclusion.
Challenges for Crypto Adoption Remain
Cryptocurrency also provides a vital option for enhancing access to financial services for millions of unbanked individuals, aligning with a strategy for more inclusive economic development. However, despite the vast potential, education remains a major challenge.
Many people in Southeast Asia do not fully understand how cryptocurrencies work or their benefits, making financial education and literacy essential in overcoming this hurdle.
