Prague: A City of Beauty, Culture, and Crypto Innovation

Prague, the charming capital city of the Czech Republic, is a popular tourist destination known for its rich history, stunning architecture, and vibrant culture. With its cobblestone streets, Gothic spires, and quaint cafes, Prague is often referred to as the “City of a Hundred Spires.” This fairy-tale-like city is also home to a number of world-renowned landmarks, such as the Charles Bridge, Prague Castle, and the Old Town Square. From its rich history to its modern-day flair, Prague is a city that truly has something for everyone.

Prague: A Crypto Hub in the Heart of Europe

Today, Prague is a leading tech hub in Central Europe. Having changed currencies once a generation due to their various rulers and independence, the Czech people are known for monetary skepticism and have enthusiastically adopted digital currencies. This interest has been compounded by the growing inflationary pressure on the Czech koruna (CZK), which stood at 18.0% per annum in June 2022.

The crypto industry in the Czech Republic has been growing rapidly, with companies like SatoshiLabs, Alza, Trezor, Braiins and others leading the way in educating the public about digital assets. Despite this, the Czech National Bank has yet to take a stance on regulation of the industry. Despite some setbacks in the industry and market fluctuations, interest in cryptocurrencies remains strong among the Czech people, particularly in Prague. Prague has a rich history in the crypto world, being the birthplace of the world’s first hardware wallet, mining pools, and Bitcoin coffee shop. In recent years, the city has become a hub for digital nomads, being named the top location for remote work in 2021. Thanks to the efforts of early adopters, Prague is now home to numerous crypto meetups, hackathons, and events, making it a unique destination in Central Europe for all things crypto.

Bitcoin Adoption Picking Up in Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has made significant progress in terms of Bitcoin adoption and usage, according to statistics from CoinZone. With 55,000 wallet downloads in a population of 10.5 million, the country has made a solid start in the world of cryptocurrency. Despite the fact that only 77% of the population actively uses the internet, interest in Bitcoin is expected to grow in the coming years. The country currently has 112 merchants who accept Bitcoin payments, with the majority located in Prague, the capital city. Other areas of interest to Bitcoin enthusiasts include Brno with 12 merchants and Ostrava with 6 merchants. The Czech Republic is also home to 8 Bitcoin ATMs, making it the 12th most popular country in the world for Bitcoin ATM usage.

It’s worth noting that mobile payments have yet to become popular in the Czech Republic, with only 42% of citizens using smartphones and only a small percentage of those making purchases with their devices.
